Goodness it's blowing a storm outside. It's just as well really, because I've realised that it's Hydeeann's first EPP (English Paper Piecing) linky party today, I've done no EPP for aaaages, and I need to do something quick smart to link up.
That would be because I'd sewn up all the diamonds I had basted and needed to baste this pile before I could do any more. My plan to do this before I returned to work had ended in naught.
132 cut diamonds to baste. Pretty to look at, not to baste. |
Hmmmm. That doesn't look like a lot of fun really, does it?! But never fear, I had my new glue pen to trial. Can you see that price tag for a teeny tiny glue stick. *gasp*. The big question is, would it be any better than its larger, $4 comrade?
The battle of the glue pens commences |
Well, sadly I have to confess, it is better. You'd expect so, really, but I really would prefer to tell you to save your money. The sew line glue pen is really fine, which means it puts a lovely thin line of glue on. It's just the right amount of sticky, and best of all, didn't make a mess. So that pile at the top turned into this in about an hour.
Quilting satisfaction. Oh yeah. |
Yep, that's 72 lovely glue basted diamonds. Just like that. And I also did the six diamonds to go with the liberty hexagon I had already started.
Liberty. Enough said. |
Impressed? I was pretty pleased. Overall I do like my new glue pen, but I have to say, if you're short of cash, the UHU glue stick did the job too. It was just a little bit messier. I'll certainly keep it as a back up.
Now I've got no excuse to start sewing these all together.
Linking up to Hydeeann's monthly linky EPP party. Come and have a look!

I can't believe you had the patience to try UHU, you're a star! I love my sewline pen and take the price off straight away so I can pretend its cheap in my head. I'm smitten by all your little basted pieces - can't wait to see them stitched together, so don't make me wait too long :-)
Glue baste? huh? Do you glue the corners of fabric together or do you glue the fabric to the paper? ... yes I may have been living in a cave ...
Those are beautiful and fun! I miss epp. Have you tried paper clips? When I made 'Summer Wine' with octagons (my first epp quilt) I found paper clips very practical. You don't need even table to work, you can do it in your hands any where (garden, car).
Have a great weekend! x Teje
Those diamonds look lovely! I was wondering like Serena, where do you glue? And is it then easy enough to get the papers out? Does the glue wash out afterwards? So far I have used thread basting, but it DOES take quite long...
wow - glue basting is so fast. How difficult is it to get the papers out afterwards?
I tend to use the cheapest glue stick I can possibly find, as they aren't as sticky (and would be completely rubbish for anything other then this purpose) rather then UHU or Pritt. That looks like a nice pile to be working through. Xxx
good to know the pen was worth it! those piles make me want to get stuck into some piecing!
Oh ya, I'm all about the Sewline Glue Pen! Makes all the difference in the world to have that skinny line of glue. I'm with you! Love your diamonds.
i can't believe you did that many diamonds that fast!!! wow. i'm quite tempted now. in fact, i think you should quit your day job and become a sales rep for sewline glue pens because i'm pretty sure you sold dozens with this post!
ps - thanks for linking up, button and all!
The SewLine glue pen is great isn't it, and it comes with a refill (refills available in pairs on ebay etc). I love your choice of fabrics.
I love your diamonds! I can't believe how fast you basted those. Like the other commenters, I'd love to hear if it's easy to get the papers out. I might be converted :)
please demonstrate how you glue baste! You would become my BFF! :)
I'll have to try the UHU glue. Love the Liberty star!!
Liberty. {Sigh.} I must take a moment to catch my breath.
Ok. Those EPP diamonds look gorgeous. That hopscotch fabric is one of my favorite prints. And I LOVE my sewline glue pen -- it makes EPP so much quicker and easier!
